On reading slowly, on purpose
Twenty pages a day, every day, finished more books this year than any binge did.
For years I read in bursts: three books in a week, then nothing for a month. This year I tried twenty pages a day, usually on the train, and kept a tally in the back of the notebook.
| Year | Books finished | Abandoned |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 19 | 7 |
| 2025 | 23 | 5 |
| 2026 (so far) | 27 | 3 |
The surprise was not the number but how much more I remember. A book read over three weeks has time to leak into everything else.
The habit is boring, which is exactly why it works.
Who it is for: anyone whose to-read pile has become furniture.
